Post-construction cleaning in Washington, DC

Dust, debris, adhesive and paint removal after a build-out or renovation, timed to your punch list and move-in date.

A space isn't finished when the contractor leaves. It's finished when the drywall dust is out of the vents, the stickers are off the glass and the floors look like floors again.

Cleaning in stages

Most projects need cleaning at more than one point.

Rough clean

During or just after the heavy work, we clear debris, sweep and vacuum, and take off packaging and protective film. Trades can keep working, and the space doesn't turn into a dust bowl.

Final clean

After the last trade leaves, we do the detail work. Every surface gets wiped from top to bottom, including the insides of cabinets and drawers. Fixtures and glass are cleaned, adhesive and paint specks are removed, and floors are vacuumed and mopped.

Touch-up

The punch list almost always leaves marks: fingerprints on a new door, dust from a last-minute fix. A short visit right before move-in takes care of them.

Why it isn't regular cleaning

Construction dust is fine, gritty and everywhere: on top of door frames, inside light fixtures, in HVAC returns. We use vacuums with HEPA filters for the fine stuff and work from the top down, so we aren't redoing the floor. New finishes also need care. Abrasive pads and harsh chemicals that work on an old surface can ruin a new one.

Working with your contractor

We coordinate with the general contractor or project manager on timing, access and what's still under construction. Give us the target dates and we work backward from the move-in or inspection date. If the schedule slips, as schedules do, we move with it.

Building rules in DC

Many DC buildings require a tenant's contractors to file paperwork, book the freight elevator and haul debris along a set route. Send us the building's rules early so we can plan around them. If the property manager needs a certificate of insurance before our crew can enter, we need to know that first, not the night before.

Questions about post-construction cleaning

Do you haul away construction debris?

We handle cleanup debris: packaging, dust and small offcuts. Bulk construction waste and dumpster removal stay with the contractor.

How long does a final clean take?

A small suite can be done in a day. Larger floors take several days with a bigger crew. After the walkthrough, we give you a day count and a crew size.
